To comply with Indian customs regulations, the shipment owner must be present in the country when their goods arrive in India. We will then move your possessions to Bangalore ICD and contact you once your shipment has cleared customs to organise delivery.

How much do overseas removals to India from South Africa cost?

International removals to India costs vary depending on where you're going and how much you're shipping. Use our free online quote tool for a specific cost breakdown.

What are the customs rules when shipping personal items to India?

We make customs clearance for removals to India straightforward. But there are a few things to keep in mind:

Complete all your online documents, including your Inventory and provide invoices for any electrical items, as Indian customs officials will ask to see them.
There are no duties on used personal effects as long as you have owned them for at least a year. However, both used and new electronic items are subject to 38.5% duty.
You must be present in India when your shipment arrives. Our agent will email you pre-filled import documents two weeks before your shipment docks in India. Simply print and sign them, then contact BlueDart courier company to send them to our office along with the shipment owner's passport.

Indian authorities have a checklist of items banned from importation to protect its citizens and the environment. Refer to our Prohibited Goods page for an up-to-date list.

What documents do I need to complete for removals to India?

After booking our removals to India service, log into your account and fill in the following documents:

An Inventory listing the entire contents of your shipment.
Scans of the shipment owner's valid passport picture and signature pages.
Destination address, email, and contact phone number of the shipment owner.
Copies of invoices for any electrical goods you are shipping.
Optional insurance forms to protect your household goods in the rare case of loss or damage.
Print and sign import documents that our agent will email you two weeks before your shipment docks in India. Then send them alongside the shipment owner's passport to our office.

Customs officials will see these forms, so accuracy is essential. Our round-the-clock customer support team are happy to help if you need further information.

Do you offer storage services for my shipment?

For international removals, you can enjoy 2 weeks of free storage at one of our secure storage facilities closest to your address in the origin country. We don't currently offer free storage in India.

If plans change and you need longer storage, let us know 24 hours or more ahead of your MoveCube® loading day.

What items can I not ship to India?

Like all countries worldwide, India has a list of goods banned from importation to protect its citizens and environment. Please reference our Prohibited Goods page before packing to avoid fines or delays.

Did you know?

In India, there are three plug types C, D and M. As it's unsafe to use adaptors for long periods, and there's a 38.5% duty on all electronics imported into the country, you might want to reconsider shipping these items.

Securely wrapping and packing all your items and removal boxes is essential when relocating to India. We recommend hiring a packing service to do it for you to remove stress. Cut back on clutter!:

Make a detailed list of everything you own and decide what to take. Decluttering is a great way to sort items you no longer need. Plus, you'll save money by shipping fewer possessions.

eBay and Facebook Marketplace are fantastic ways to fund your move by selling items you no longer use. High street charity shops will be happy to take anything you have in good condition. Also, you can take any broken or unusable items to your local recycling centre.

Be careful with fragile goods:

Create a robust base for your box by sealing the flaps with three layers of overlapping parcel tape. Repeat when sealing the lid. Cover each item in bubble wrap and use two or more layers for delicate goods. Place heavy items at the bottom and centre and lighter effects on top, away from the sides.

Fill any gaps with soft materials like towels or packing paper. When full, give your container a gentle shake. If you hear anything move, add more padding.

Organise parking for our vehicle:

For a successful loading day, purchase any parking tickets or permits before the MoveCube® arrives to ensure our driver can park within twenty meters of your building's entrance.

You are responsible for loading the MoveCube®, so ask friends and family to help. Our driver can loan you a trolley to help transfer containers, but they must keep the vehicle within sight.

Stack items by weight in the MoveCube®:

Before loading day, use the floor sheets in your Starter Pack to see if your possessions fit inside a Small, Medium or Large MoveCube®. Place heavy items along the bottom and centre and build around them with lighter containers above and to the sides.

If you see a gap, fill it with a solid container. However, avoid using loose items, which break easily and could cause damage during transit.
