What size of delivery boxes do you have for Austria shipments?

Once you've settled on a charming Austrian city to relocate to, it's time to pack your belongings. Our international delivery experts offer sturdy boxes made from double-walled, chemically-strengthened cardboard to protect your belongings. Popular choices are our Large and Standard boxes (see below for exact dimensions).

Order plenty of delivery boxes, and we'll collect any that remain brand-new and unused for free. You can also send bigger items, such as instruments and skis, using specially-shaped containers made from the same materials. Suitably prepare them before collection day, and we'll take them to our nearest depot and box them.

You can use your own containers. However, please avoid laundry bags, plastic crates, used food boxes, and bin liners since they break easily and could damage your entire shipment.

We simplify the Austrian customs process

If you're sending belongings from a European Union (EU) country to Austria, there's no customs clearance. For the rest of the world, our international delivery experts handle the customs process. However, there are some important things you should know.

Ensure your delivery boxes and bags don't contain any restricted items. To protect its population and environment, Austria has a list of banned items you cannot import. So, before you pack your delivery, read our Prohibited Goods page to avoid fines or delays.

Then, log into your Seven Seas Worldwide account and complete the following documents:

  • An inventory of every item you're sending to Austria. Austria customs officials will see it, so accuracy is essential.
  • Optional insurance forms for extra peace of mind in the rare chance your delivery shipment is damaged or lost.
  • A copy of the shipment owner's passport including colour scans of the picture and signature pages.

European Union (EU) members can import to Austria used personal items free from customs duty and taxes. However, for the same relief, non-EU members must meet the following provisions:

  • Your primary residence must have been outside the EU for at least twelve months.
  • You must have personally owned and used your belongings for at least six months.
  • You must import your items into Austria within twelve months of your arrival.
  • You must not sell, loan or gift your items for twelve months following customs clearance.

(Please note, there is no customs clearance within the EU).

Please reference the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance website for the most up-to-date customs information. Our multilingual customer service team is available around the clock to answer any questions.

Pack luggage for overseas delivery to Austria in 4 easy steps

Hiring a professional packing service eases stress. But, if you decide to pack your belongings yourself, take care and follow our step-by-step guide below. For even more in-depth packing tips, check out How to choose a box for shipping and Preparing large items for collection.

Carefully secure your box:

Gather all your packing materials, like a knife and parcel tape. Then, seal the base of your delivery box by folding in the small flaps and then the large flaps, and secure them with a few layers of overlapping parcel tape.

Cover exposed edges with more tape, then tightly wrap all around the box's base. Once the box is full of possessions, similarly secure the lid.

Be careful with delicate items:

Use at least two layers of bubble wrap on everything and several layers for fragile things. Put heavy goods at the bottom of your delivery box and lighter items above and in from the sides.

Fill gaps with cushioning materials like crumpled paper, foam peanuts or tea towels. Give your box a gentle shake; add more cushioning materials if you hear a sound.

Complete your inventory:

Log in to your online account and complete your inventory, a detailed list of everything you're sending to Austria. Customs in Austria will see it, therefore accuracy is essential.

On two sides of all delivery boxes, bags, and suitcases, write your job number, box number, and the shipment owner's destination country and city/town with a marker pen. Closely reference your inventory to ensure accuracy.

Prepare for collection day:

For the safety of you and our driver, no delivery container may weigh more than the max 30kg/66lbs limit. Individually weigh each suitcase, box and bag on bathroom scales. If something exceeds the limit, remove some things and place them in a lighter container.

For an easy collection day experience, move your entire shipment as close to your building's entrance as possible several hours in advance.

It was a super easy delivery process and very affordable!! The Seven Seas Worldwide driver was super friendly, customer service was always accessible, and communication was good throughout sending.
