About our purpose-built shipping boxes
Our super strong cardboard boxes are chemically-hardened and specially designed to protect your belongings on bumpy journeys. Below are the dimensions of our two most popular cartons, Large and Standard. However, we can also provide other high-quality packing materials and boxes for unusually shaped items like sports equipment and musical instruments.
Of course, you can use your own containers. But please avoid laundry bags, plastic crates, used food boxes and bin liners, as they aren't durable enough for overseas shipping. Plus, if you opt for our boxes, you can order as many as you like, and we'll collect those you don't use (as long as they're in pristine condition!) free of charge.
For furniture, white goods and other large household items, we recommend our MoveCube® service instead. Revolutionising international removals, it's essentially a mini dedicated shipping container delivered to your door, ready for you to load.

We make Hong Kong's customs regulations straightforward
HK's customs process is one of the least restrictive in the world, meaning importing personal effects for both citizens and non-citizens is duty-free. However, there are still a few things you need to do to ensure your shipment sails through customs without a hitch:
- Before packing, check our Prohibited Items page to ensure all the goods you want to ship are allowed into Hong Kong. These government-enforced rules are in place to protect a country's environment and population. If customs officials find banned items in your shipment, you will likely face fines and delays — something we're very keen for you to avoid!
- Next, complete your Inventory Packing List as you box up your possessions. This document accompanies your goods throughout their journey and must accurately detail the items it contains, the shipment owner's destination address and the consignee's name and contact details.
- Then, log into your online Seven Seas Worldwide account and upload scans of your passport's picture and signature pages.
- Finally, we recommend you protect your shipment with one of the insurance policies we offer for extra peace of mind.
FAQs about shipping to Hong Kong
Thanks to our friendly team and many years of experience, we make shipping to Hong Kong straightforward. Here's how it works in three steps:
- Start by obtaining your free instant quote. Then place your order, pay the security deposit (excluding Air Express) and select a convenient date for us to deliver the empty boxes and any packaging materials.
- Next, pack your boxes and bags and complete your online documentation, including an inventory and copies of your passport and visa. Contact us for collection.
- Once we receive your Shipping and Transportation payment, we'll ship your belongings and clear them through customs. Upon their arrival, log into your online account, pay the destination charge and arrange your shipment's delivery.
With our overseas bag and box shipping service, you can send almost everything you typically find in a holiday suitcase. Plus, bulky luggage like golf clubs, guitars and bicycles.
However, all countries forbid importing some items for security and customs reasons. Please check our Prohibited Goods list before packing to avoid unnecessary fines and delays.
Baggage shipping to Hong Kong doesn't have to break the bank! Send your personal possessions with us for a quality service at an affordable cost.
However, the final rates will depend on the number of boxes you want to send, you're preferred shipping method and the collection and delivery addresses. Use our free online quote engine to generate an accurate cost tailored to your needs.
Most personal effects (used items the sender has owned for at least six months) don't need to pay customs duties when imported into Hong Kong. But we recommend researching the latest HK customs rules and regulations to ensure your belongings meet the necessary tax-free criteria.
We offer several transport methods, depending on your budget and timeframe. Shipping to Hong Kong via sea takes 70 days and is the most cost-effective and eco-friendly method. Alternatively, our Air Economy service takes 14 days, and Air Express, 11 days for a slightly higher cost.
Please note that the transit time commences once you've completed the online documentation and paid the Shipping and Transportation cost. It ends after your shipment arrives at the depot responsible for its final delivery.
To ensure your goods arrive via the quickest and most efficient method possible, all shipping and air routes are predefined and cannot be altered.

How to pack boxes for international shipping
We want nothing more than for your possessions to arrive in the same condition as they left your home. So, give yourself plenty of time to pack and wrap everything carefully to ensure safe delivery. Don't panic — it's not as difficult as you might think.
We've written plenty of handy packing guides to help, including the 4-step process below. But if you have any doubts, we suggest hiring a professional packer to do the job for you.
Seal the base of your boxes:
Firstly, gather any tools you're likely to need, such as a marker pen, parcel tape and bubble wrap. Next, to assemble the shipping boxes we supply, fold in the small bottom flaps and then the large flaps and seal them closed with several strips of parcel tape.
Lastly, cover the exposed edges, tightly wrapping the tape around the box for maximum security. Follow the same process when sealing the lid after filling the container.
Carefully wrap fragile items:
Individually cover each item in bubble wrap or packing paper. Place the heaviest goods at the bottom of the container and kitchenware, picture frames, ornaments and other fragile items in the middle of the box, away from the inside walls.
Once packed, gently shake the box. If you hear any of the contents move or bump into each other, fill the gaps with crumpled newspaper, towels and other soft materials.
Accurately fill in your inventory:
Keep track of the items you're shipping by completing the online Inventory Packing List as you fill your boxes. This mandatory document must be 100% accurate, as customs agents will use it to identify anything they might need to inspect in your shipment.
Then, write your job number, box number, and the shipment's owner's destination country and city on two sides of each box, ensuring these match your inventory.
Prepare for collection day:
For a seamless collection, please pack your boxes and bags and place them at your building's entrance before our driver arrives. Do note to protect both yourself and our team, we can't accept containers over 30kg/66lbs.
Check that your boxes are within this weight limit by placing them on bathroom scales and evenly distributing their contents.
So glad I chose Seven Seas Worldwide to deliver my daughter's boxes to Hong Kong. Everything went smoothly, from the delivery of the empty boxes to the arrival of the boxes at the final destination.

Best things to do in Hong Kong
Although known worldwide as Asia's financial centre, Hong Kong certainly isn't all work and no play. From Taoist temples and tropical trails to thrill rides and infinity pools, this vibrant city provides an endless amount to see and experience.
Here are just a few key attractions you won't want to miss off your travel itinerary:
Hong Kong Island
From a humble fishing village to a modern metropolis, HK Island is a pulsating utopia of soaring skyscrapers, glitzy malls, luxury boutiques and high-end restaurants serving every cuisine imaginable.
Take a trip on the Ding Dings: the iconic double-decker HK Trams have been traversing the island for over 100 years, offering tourists and locals alike an affordable and convenient way to explore the city.
Hike the Dragon's Back: brave the heat and stroll along this picturesque mountain ridge. You'll be rewarded with impressive coastal views of the sea and outlying islands.
Admire the view from the Peak: this popular beauty spot is taller than Hong Kong's highest skyscraper and boasts jaw-dropping panoramas of the city and the South China Sea.
Dine on Asian delicacies: slurp snake soup at Se Wong Yee (one of the island's tiniest eateries!), feast on fish balls from street food stalls and queue for budget-friendly Michelin star roast goose.
Snap a pic of the Monster Building: one of the most Instagrammable places in Hong Kong, this cluster of 5 tightly-packed apartment buildings comprises 18 floors and 2243 colourful units. It's definitely worthy of its local name!
Kowloon
Located across the harbour from Hong Kong Island, Kowloon is considered the city's more authentic (and affordable!) side. It's known for its twisting side streets, sprawling markets and thriving Chinese culture. While busy during the day, this area truly comes alive at night.
Grab a bargain at Temple Street: the largest night market in the city, here, you can haggle for all sorts of souvenirs, including clothes, bags, watches and home furnishings.
Sail across Victoria Harbour: hop on the historic Star Ferry between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island for a ten-minute, unrivalled view of the city's iconic harbour.
Witness a dazzling light show: every night, HK's skyline is illuminated by vibrant lasers synchronised to music, providing an audio-visual feast for the senses. According to the Guinness World Records, it's the largest permanent light show on the planet!
Enjoy a night at the opera: the city's only surviving pre-war cinema, Yau Ma Tei Theatre's shows are instantly recognisable thanks to their ornate costumes and dazzling theatricals.
Get zen at HK's busiest temple: shrowded in a fog of incense and muttered prayers, the gorgeously ornamented Wong Tai Sin Temple is home to three religions, Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism.
The New Territories
Head off the beaten track with a visit to this downtown area of Hong Kong. A must for nature lovers, here you'll discover a variety of lush country parks, mountainous landscapes and sweeping ocean views just a stone's throw from the bustling city centre.
Meet Ten Thousand Buddhas: although it's a steep climb to the summit, this nine-story pagoda is surrounded by more Buddha statues than you could shake a lotus leaf at!
Explore the city's wild side: spanning 600,000 square meters, Hong Kong Wetland Park is a beautiful conservation area home to an array of wildlife, including Pui Pui, an enormous saltwater crocodile.
Visit Hong Kong's best sunset spot: this stretch of coastline is dotted with mangroves, mudflats and fishing shacks. The beach's calm waters make it the perfect place to watch the sun descend.
Learn about Cantonese culture: the Hong Kong Heritage Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the territory's history, with exhibitions on calligraphy, Bruce Lee and much more.
Make your wishes come true: pray for good luck at the Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees, one of HK's most famous shrines. During the first few days of the Lunar New Year, people write their wishes on paper tied around oranges and throw them into the trees' branches.
Outlying Islands
Hong Kong comprises more than 250 islands, so there's plenty to keep you from revisiting the same old spots.
Whether you're looking for stunning beaches or picturesque hikes, these peaceful hideaways have it all and then some.
Hang out with Mickey Mouse: a tourist's paradise, it takes more than a day trip to see all that Lantau Island has to offer, including Hong Kong Disneyland and Tian Tan, one of the world's largest seated Buddhas.
Clamber over volcanic rocks: Tung Ping Chau is the easternmost outlying island and a UNESCO Global Geopark. It's famous for unusual rock formations, spectacular cliffs and magical sea life.
Relish the peace and quiet: escape urban life with a visit to Lamma Island, where you can only travel by foot or bicycle. Sunbathing on Hung Shing Yeh Beach and dining on freshly caught seafood are just two things to tick off your itinerary.
Sleep under the stars: perfect for picnics, kite flying and camping, Tap Mun (or Grass Island) is an idyllic haven for those wanting to reconnect with nature.
Be brave and go ghost hunting: there's only one path around Po Toi, and it takes you through eerie abandoned villages, past a haunted coffin-shaped rock and down a cliff covered in ancient carvings.
