4 expert packing tips for removals to Austria
Thoroughly packing furniture and possessions before a move abroad is essential for their safety. We highly recommend hiring a professional packing service to ease some stress. Otherwise, take your time and follow our top tips below. For even more in-depth advice, check out How to load a MoveCube® and How to pack our boxes.
Only ship what's needed:
Survey your home and decide what you'll need in Austria and what you won't. After all, the fewer belongings you move, the cheaper your removal will be.
Why not sell excess items on auction websites like eBay and Facebook Marketplace for extra cash to fund your move? Take everything else to charity shops or recycling centres.
Pack cautiously:
Secure your box's base with three overlapping layers of parcel tape, then repeat at the lid once full. Use bubble wrap on everything and at least two layers for fragile items. Place the heaviest goods at the bottom and lighter things above and in from the sides.
Fill gaps with cushioned materials like hand towels and packing paper. Once full, give your box a little shake. If you hear anything, add more cushioned materials.
Secure a parking space for our van:
If required, buy parking tickets or permits before the MoveCube® arrives so our driver can park within twenty metres of your home.
You are responsible for loading the MoveCube® moving pod. Why not ask friends and family for some help? You can borrow a trolley from our driver to move containers, but they must always be able to keep the vehicle within eyesight.
Load the MoveCube® evenly:
Use the floor sheets in your Starter Pack to determine what fits inside a Large, Medium or Small MoveCube®. Place the largest items at the bottom and build above and around them with lighter containers.
Just like in a game of Tetris, if you see a gap, fill it with a container like a cardboard box. Avoid using loose items, as they could break and damage the rest of your possessions.
What an amazing company!! The communication and care for my goods were over and above anything I have ever experienced. I had a very personal and professional service. I would highly recommend Seven Seas Worldwide and the entire team.

Austria removals: a step-by-step guide for expats
Austrians value their heritage, social cohesion and a high quality of living. So, if you're looking to retire or start afresh in a country known for its historical charm, safe streets and culinary delights, Austria could be the country for you. But before you sprint to the airport, read our essential facts to help with the big move:
Types of visas: European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) citizens do not need visas to move to Austria. All other nationals require a visa and a residence permit for stays over six months.
Job opportunities: learning German will improve your chances of finding work in Austria. Research the most applicable working visa. Qualifying non-EU workers can apply for a points-based Very Highly Qualified Workers visa.
Healthcare: Austria has one of the world's highest life expectancies thanks to its publicly-funded healthcare system. EU nationals have access via a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Non-EU nationals should arrange private medical insurance until their residency is confirmed.
Education: schooling in Austria is compulsory for children aged 6 to 15. Upper secondary education is optional but widely attended. Students receive a well-rounded education emphasising the arts, history and languages. World-ranked higher education institutions include the University of Vienna and the University of Innsbruck.
Lifestyle: Austrians value a balanced pace of life and cherish time spent with family and friends via leisurely meals and coffee meets. Expats can partake in many activities, from football and hiking to music festivals and community engagements.
Relocation to-do list for overseas moves
Even though our international removals services make the logistics of moving to Austria simple, use our handy checklist to prepare for the move itself:
- Gather your paperwork: keep all important documents and identification in one place, such as birth certificates, passports and marriage certificates.
- Apply for a visa: thoroughly research, apply for the most applicable visa for your and your family's needs and await approval.
- Arrange accommodation: sell or rent your current home, then decide to buy or rent in Austria. Renting lets you acclimatise before making a big purchase; buying lets you secure roots immediately.
- Book our international removals service: grab an instant free quote on our website, then choose a suitable date so we can bring a MoveCube(s)® to your home.
- Arrange travel to Austria: book flights early so you can settle into your new house stress-free ahead of your removals shipment.
- Sort your finances: tell your banks you're moving to Austria, and withdraw some euros to cover emergencies or last-second purchases.
- Speak to a doctor: ask for a ninety-day supply of ongoing prescriptions to last until you find a healthcare provider in Austria.
- Pet relocation: if your furry friends are coming, ensure they have been vaccinated for rabies, and have up-to-date health certificates and a comfortable pet carrier. Dogs, cats and ferrets entering Austria must be identifiable by a microchip or a tattoo and have a pet passport.
- Have a declutter: be selective about which furniture and possessions you'll ship to Austria. Sell, donate or recycle the rest.
- Pack your removal shipment: carefully pack your belongings into strong moving containers. For a happy loading day experience, move all your boxes, bags and furniture as close to your building's entrance as possible the night before.
- Settle into your new house: once your removals shipment clears customs, log into your account and choose a delivery date. Then, unpack, unwind, and settle into your new life in Austria!
