How to package skis for collection
Our expert team make shipping skis internationally easy. As part of our Boxes and Bags Worldwide service, we'll collect your ski bag from your home and take it to our nearest depot. Then, we'll pack it into a strong cardboard box and ship it to your destination country.
But there are a few essential things for you to do to prepare your skis for shipping:
- Thoroughly clean and dry your skis, poles and ski bag. Doing so means you'll have clean equipment at your destination. If we receive any part of your equipment unclean, you will incur a cleaning charge. Plus, if, during inspections, a local environmental agency discovers some organic matter, it could lead to fines and delays.
- Ensure your bindings and brakes do not protrude in order to prevent them from ripping your bag during transit. You may need to use cable ties to hold them in place.
- Protect both ends of your skis with cushioning materials such as bubble wrap.
- Weigh your ski bag and skis on bathroom scales to ensure they do not exceed the weight limit of 30kg/66lbs.
- If possible, pack your skis into a hard shell ski box. Otherwise, place your skis and poles inside a ski bag and measure its height, depth and width to ensure it fits inside our boxes. The maximum accepted measurements are 182cm height, 24cm depth and 24cm width.
You can ship your ski boots and other ski accessories as part of the same order. But please ensure you wrap them well with cushioning materials and pack them into strong containers.
Check your quote to confirm that our vans are collecting your shipment. If instead it’s one of our partners, your shipment will not be inspected until it arrives at our hub for export. So, we recommend you buy a hard ski box (Seven Seas Worldwide does not endorse these products), which can be reused and is far cheaper than having to repair or replace damaged skis.
Although not a professional packing service, our experienced staff will pack your skis to a high standard into double-walled, chemically-strengthened cardboard boxes. Our containers protect your favourite skis during long journeys via land, air or sea.
We start by inspecting the ski bag for defects such as scratches. Then, we protect both ends by wrapping them in large pieces of foam tubing and securing them with parcel tape. We then cover the centre of the ski bag in several layers of bubble wrap, secured with more parcel tape.
Next, we prepare the base of the box by folding in the small and large flaps and securing them in place with several layers of overlapping parcel tape. We then gently place your ski bag inside the box. If there is movement inside the box, we'll add more bubble wrap until it stops. Finally, we secure the lid in the same manner as the base and label it ready to be stored or shipped.
Thoroughly clean and dry your skis, poles and ski bag. Doing so means you'll have clean equipment at your destination, and it helps our staff box them.
Customs regulations when sending skis overseas
Thanks to a global network of depots, we offer a complete door-to-door shipping service, including customs clearance in most countries where we operate. But there are some essential customs rules you should know.
Every country has a list of items banned from importation to protect its people and environment. Please check out our Prohibited Goods page before booking for the latest information.
Log in to your online account and complete the following:
- An inventory listing all items you are shipping. Custom authorities will see it, so please ensure accuracy.
- Optional insurance forms to ease some stress in the rare case your skis are lost or damaged.
- Colour scans of the shipment owner's passport picture and signature pages.
My Seven Seas Worldwide shipping experience was wonderful. I highly recommend them for shipping excess baggage or when moving overseas. My husband and I had skis, snowboards and a few household items to ship back to Australia from Canada. There were no problems. Our shipment even arrived back in Australia before we did! Thank you, Seven Seas Worldwide, for making our international move stress-free.

We control shipping overheads because we own and operate a global network of depots. So, we're able to keep fees low. Costs depend on how soon you need your skis, your budget, and your origin and destination addresses. Get a quick free quote today for a transparent price breakdown.
As experienced overseas shippers, we've considered everything. You can store your skis at our secure depots for free for a total of 4 weeks in most countries where we operate. If you would like to add time for an affordable fee, let us know 24 hours or more before we collect your skis.
The transit time depends on several things, such as your origin and destination addresses and your shipping method. Shipping by sea is cheaper and uses less C02, making it better for the planet. Air shipping gets your skis to their destination faster, perfect if you have a bigger budget and a short timeframe.
Consider one of our comprehensive insurance plans to cover your beloved skis in the rare chance they are damaged or lost. Plus, you can use our online tracker to monitor their worldwide location.
Yes! All you need to do is check that your hotel or B&B accept deliveries on your behalf. If so, we recommend shipping your skis in advance to ensure they arrive before you.
